Epic Universe is the most anticipated theme park opening in years and families are already dreaming about their first visit. Set to open May 22, 2025, Universal Orlando’s new park boasts several immersive lands and attractions designed to wow kids and adults. But if you’re wondering whether it’s a good fit for younger children, here’s the good news: there will be plenty of family-friendly things to do!
In this post, I’m breaking down all the attractions and areas families with young kids should be excited about and how to make the most of your time when Epic Universe opens.
Celestial Park: A Welcoming Start for Families
This land sits at the center of Epic Universe and acts as a hub to access the other lands, but it’s also a beautiful, relaxing area packed with fun for all ages.
Family-friendly highlights:
- Constellation Carousel: A fun new take on a carousel with fun music, lights, and movement in different directions
- Interactive water play areas make for a perfect cool-down spot on warm days.
- Beautiful walkways, fountains and green spaces ideal for stroller strolls and breaks between rides.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk: A Kid-Favorite in the Making
If your kids love the How to Train Your Dragon movies, this land will be a must-do. It’s been designed with families in mind and includes rides and attractions geared toward younger guests as well as lots of roaming characters. On top of all of this there are so many details in this land that are fun to look at and interact with.
Family-friendly highlights:
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders: A roller coaster that is thrilling, but still family friendly with some fun surprises.
- Viking Training Camp: A playground with one entrance in and out designed for kids of all ages to burn off energy while parents relax in the shade.
- Fyre Drill: A slow boat ride which includes a water shooting game where you’re tasked with shooting targets where there are “fires” and the people in all of the other boats. You will get soaked on this ride, but there is no height requirement (only the need to be able to stand) making it friendly for even the smallest guests.
- Toothless Meet & Greet: Meet your kid’s favorite How to Train Your Dragon character and re-enact the iconic moment when Hiccup meets Toothless.
This land is the best for families with toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-age kids who want hands-on fun without long waits or scary thrills.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic: Magic for All Ages
The new Wizarding World of Harry Potter is based in 1920’s France and straight out of the second Fantastic Beasts movie. The only ride in this land is designed with the whole family in mind and the land is just as interactive as the original two.
Family-friendly highlights:
- Wand shopping and interactive spell-casting areas, similar to Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.
- Circus Arcane: A family friendly show featuring many of the beasts from the Fantastic Beasts movies.
- Harry Potter & The Battle at the Ministry: While not toddler friendly, Early elementary Aged kids familiar with the franchise will certainly enjoy this attraction and anyone who has seen the films HAS to see the queue. It’s incredible.

Super Nintendo World: A Gamified Playground for Families
If your kids know Mario, Luigi, or Yoshi, they’ll feel like they’ve jumped into their favorite video game. Super Nintendo World already exists in Japan and Hollywood, and the Florida version is the biggest created.
Family-friendly highlights:
- Yoshi’s Adventure: A gentle ride designed specifically for younger guests although it does still have a height requirement of 34″
- Interactive games and challenges using a Power-Up Band to “collect coins” and unlock experiences.
- A colorful environment full of kinetic energy, music, and movement perfect for little explorers.

Tips for Visiting with Young Kids
- Check height requirements in advance: Some rides do have restrictions. A travel advisor (like me!) can help you know what’s a good fit.
- Use child swap wisely: For rides older siblings or parents want to experience, this system helps you avoid waiting twice.
- Plan rest breaks and water play: Bring a change of clothes so your little ones can enjoy splash areas.
- Arrive early to beat the heat and crowds—morning hours are gold with little ones.

Final Thoughts: Epic Universe is a Game-Changer for Families
Epic Universe is shaping up to be a magical place for families, with immersive lands that balance thrills and imagination. While there will be plenty of jaw-dropping rides for teens and adults, families with young kids will absolutely find a full day—or more—of adventure here.
